G-201.1 Why MKC

Why choose MKC for energy rebates

Rebates in Ontario change often, and many have rules that must be met before work starts, such as a pre-approval or a home energy assessment. Get the order wrong and the rebate can be lost. Before you sign, we check which programs are open for your project, confirm the equipment appears on the qualified lists, and give you the documents the program asks for. Eligibility and amounts change, so we check again before ordering.

We check what applies to you

Programs change through the year. Tell us the upgrade, how you heat your home and what type of home it is, and we confirm what’s open now, what has to happen before work starts, and which paperwork the program will ask for.

G-201.3 Budget & schedule

What affects
the price

Every estimate is built from your measurements and choices. These are the things that move the number most.

Typical timeline

We check rebates as part of your estimate. Programs that need a home energy assessment add a visit before work and a follow-up after, and current Home Renovation Savings terms require that follow-up by December 31, 2026.

Every project is different, so your estimate comes with its own written schedule, and we aim to beat the usual industry timeline on every job.

  1. 01
    Heating fuel

Rebate amounts depend on whether you heat with natural gas, electricity, oil, propane or wood.

  2. 02
    Program stream

Some upgrades need an energy assessment before work and a second upgrade to qualify.

  3. 03
    Equipment model

Heat pumps must be on the qualified product list, so the model decides eligibility.

  4. 04
    Home type

Detached, semi-detached, row and townhomes qualify; new builds and stacked townhouses often don’t.

  5. 05
    Timing

Deadlines, pre-approvals and funding limits mean the order and date of the work matter.

G-201.4 Questions

Questions about energy rebates

Don’t see your question? Call (647) 637-6052 or ask in your estimate request.

Which rebates are open right now?

As of October 2026, the Home Renovation Savings Program offers up to $7,500 for cold-climate air source heat pumps ($2,000 if you heat with Enbridge natural gas), up to $12,000 for ground source, up to $7,700 for insulation, $100 per window or door opening and $125 for a smart thermostat. Income-qualified households can apply once for free upgrades through Enbridge Gas’s Home Winterproofing Program and Save on Energy’s Energy Affordability Program. Amounts change, so we confirm them before work starts.

Is there a deadline?

For upgrades that need an energy assessment, yes. Under the current Home Renovation Savings terms, the follow-up assessment must be done within 180 days of the first one or by December 31, 2026, whichever comes first, and booked by November 30, 2026. The terms also say rebates stop once program funding is fully allocated. If you’re planning insulation or windows, start the assessment soon.

Who does the home energy assessment?

A registered energy advisor from one of the program’s Service Organizations, booked before any work starts. Their report shows which upgrades qualify. Heat pump rebates also need a participating HVAC contractor to submit a pre-installation application, and attic insulation goes through a participating insulation contractor. We confirm the right route for your job before you commit, and supply the invoices and product details the program requires.

What happened to the Canada Greener Homes Grant and Loan?

Both are closed. Natural Resources Canada lists December 31, 2025 as the last day to submit documents for the Canada Greener Homes Grant, and the Canada Greener Homes Loan can no longer approve applications. In Ontario, the Home Renovation Savings Program now covers many of the same upgrades, including heat pumps, insulation, windows and doors, under its own rules.

Are there incentives for businesses and commercial buildings?

Yes. Save on Energy’s Retrofit Program covers up to 50% of eligible project costs for upgrades such as HVAC, chillers and lighting controls, with pre-project approval needed before installation. Its Small Business Program offers up to $3,000 for eligible lighting and up to $2,500 for other equipment. Enbridge Gas runs incentives for natural gas equipment. Our commercial mechanical team can scope the work and assemble the application.
