A-110.1 Why MKC
Why choose MKC for a custom bar
The first decision is wet or dry. A wet bar needs a sink with a drain and vent, which is simple near existing plumbing and harder across a basement slab. Then come the appliances: a bar fridge, ice maker or wine cooler, each with its own clearances and power. MKC covers all of it under one contract: custom cabinetry with carved detail, the stone top, and the plumbing, wiring and lighting.
Custom cabinetry and wood carving
Your bar cabinetry is built to order with carved detailing, in the wood species and finish you choose. Boxes are planned around your appliances, glassware and bottles, so doors and drawers open where you stand and nothing is out of reach.

A-110.3 Budget & schedule
What affects
the price
Every estimate is built from your measurements and choices. These are the things that move the number most.
A dry bar against an existing wall is a short project once the cabinetry is built, while new plumbing, slab cutting or a wine wall extend it. Cabinet fabrication and the stone top, templated after the cabinets are installed, usually set the pace.
Every project is different, so your estimate comes with its own written schedule, and we aim to beat the usual industry timeline on every job.
- 01Wet or dry
A sink far from existing drains may need the slab cut, or a drain pump.
- 02Cabinetry and carving
Length of the run, wood species, door style and how much carved detail.
- 03Stone top
Slab type, thickness, edge profile, overhangs and waterfall ends.
- 04Appliances
Each fridge, cooler or ice maker needs space, ventilation clearance and sometimes its own circuit.
- 05Lighting and glass
Back-lit shelving, glass doors and a wine wall add electrical and glass work.

A-110.4 Questions
Questions about a custom bar
Don’t see your question? Call (647) 637-6052 or ask in your estimate request.
Can I have a wet bar in the basement if there’s no plumbing nearby?
Usually. If an existing drain is close, the new sink ties into it with enough slope. If not, we cut a trench in the slab to run a new drain, or install a drain pump under the sink where cutting isn’t practical. Either way, the sink needs proper venting, and new plumbing means a plumbing permit. We plan the route before the cabinetry is drawn.
Does a home bar need a permit?
The cabinetry doesn’t; the City of Toronto lists cabinetry and millwork as exempt from building permits. A wet bar sink with new drain and water lines counts as modifying the plumbing system, which needs a permit, and new circuits for fridges or lighting need an Electrical Safety Authority notification. Other GTA municipalities have similar rules, and we handle the paperwork.
What should the bar top be made of?
Quartz and porcelain slabs generally need little upkeep, which suits a bar that sees wine and citrus. Marble looks different in every slab, but acids such as wine, citrus juice and alcohol can etch it, and sealing helps with stains but not with etching. With natural stone, it’s worth choosing the actual slab before it’s cut.
How much does a custom bar cost?
Plumbing is the first fork: a dry bar avoids drains and permits. Then the length of cabinetry and how much carved detail it carries, the stone top, the number of appliances, and lighting or glass for a wine wall. The free estimate shows what each choice adds, and eligible projects can be financed through Financeit.
Can the bar match my kitchen or basement finishes?
Yes. Because the cabinetry is custom, we can match door profiles, stain or paint colours and hardware from your kitchen, or design the bar as a contrast piece. Stone can come from the same supplier or slab family. If the bar is part of a basement renovation, we plan it with the flooring, lighting and ceiling so it looks built in.
