M-106.1 Why MKC

Why choose MKC for CCTV and security systems

A camera system is only useful if it records the faces, plates and doors you care about, and keeps the footage long enough to matter. MKC plans coverage on your floor plan, runs cabling cleanly through ceilings and walls, and sets up recording and remote viewing your staff can actually use. Because we also build commercial interiors, cameras and access control can be planned into a renovation instead of added afterward.

Coverage planned like a drawing

Before anything is mounted, we mark each camera on your floor plan with its field of view and what it must capture: a face at the door, a plate at the gate, or general activity across a yard.

M-106.3 Budget & schedule

What affects
the price

Every estimate is built from your measurements and choices. These are the things that move the number most.

Typical timeline

A small business system is often installed in one to three days, while larger sites with access control take longer. Cable routing, equipment availability and work around other trades account for most of the difference.

Every project is different, so your estimate comes with its own written schedule, and we aim to beat the usual industry timeline on every job.

  1. 01
    Camera count and type

Fixed cameras cost less than varifocal or pan-tilt-zoom models. Licence plate and low-light cameras cost more.

  2. 02
    Cable runs and access

Long runs, finished ceilings, outdoor trenching and poles change labour the most.

  3. 03
    Storage and retention

More cameras, higher resolution and longer retention need more recorder storage.

  4. 04
    Access control scope

Each controlled door needs a reader, lock hardware, power and wiring back to a panel.

  5. 05
    Integration

Linking cameras with access control, alarms or an existing system adds setup time.

M-106.4 Questions

Questions about CCTV and security systems

Don’t see your question? Call (647) 637-6052 or ask in your estimate request.

What affects the price of a commercial camera system?

The number and type of cameras, how far the cables run, and how much footage you need to keep. Outdoor cameras on poles or long building walls cost more to install than indoor cameras above a drop ceiling. Each access-controlled door adds a reader, hardware and wiring. Our free estimate starts with your floor plan and a walk around the property, so every camera has a purpose.

Will installation disrupt our business?

Very little in most cases. The work is mostly mounting cameras and pulling cable through ceilings, and work over sales floors, desks or production lines can be done before opening or after closing. During an upgrade, cameras can be switched over one at a time, so you are not left without recording. We test every camera with you before we leave.

Are there privacy rules for security cameras at a business?

Yes. The federal privacy commissioner’s guidelines for businesses say to use cameras only for a clear business reason, post a notice people can see before they enter, keep cameras away from places such as washrooms, limit footage to a few authorized people and store it securely, and keep recordings only as long as needed before destroying them securely. We plan camera positions, access and retention with that in mind.

How long will recordings be kept, and what upkeep does the system need?

Retention depends on recorder storage, the number of cameras, resolution and how much motion they see, so we size the recorder for the number of days you choose. Upkeep is light: clean lenses on outdoor cameras, check that every camera is recording, install firmware updates and replace hard drives as they age. We can handle that service for you.

Do we need landlord or condo approval to install cameras?

Usually. If you lease, your landlord typically has to approve new cabling, exterior mounts and roof penetrations. In a condominium, changes to the common elements go through the condominium corporation, so cameras and cabling there need its approval. MKC coordinates with property management on approvals, permitted working hours and elevator bookings, and we can supply a camera layout drawing for their review.
