M-102.1 Why MKC
Why choose MKC for HVAC and air compressor work
MKC’s mechanical division covers both sides of a commercial mechanical room: the heating, cooling and ventilation that keep people comfortable, and the compressors, dryers, receivers and piping that keep tools and lines running. Our in-house engineers do the load and ventilation calculations a permit needs, and the mechanical division installs and maintains the equipment. With one company responsible for the whole system, shutdowns and repairs are easier to plan.
Energy efficiency built in
We size equipment from load calculations rather than the old nameplate, set compressor pressure to what your tools actually need, and track down air leaks, which waste electricity every hour the compressor runs.

M-102.3 Budget & schedule
What affects
the price
Every estimate is built from your measurements and choices. These are the things that move the number most.
Once equipment arrives, a rooftop unit or compressor swap usually takes one to two days on site, and new systems take longer. The calendar is mostly driven by equipment lead times, crane booking and permit review.
Every project is different, so your estimate comes with its own written schedule, and we aim to beat the usual industry timeline on every job.
- 01Equipment size and type
Tonnage, heating capacity and efficiency drive the price. Right-sized equipment costs less to buy and to run.
- 02Crane and roof access
Rooftop units usually go up by crane, which may need a street occupation permit, plus new curbs or adapters.
- 03Ductwork and controls
Reusing ducts and wiring saves money. New zones, thermostats or a building automation tie-in add to it.
- 04Compressed air demand
Air volume, pressure and air quality needs set compressor size, dryer type and filtration.
- 05After-hours work
Night or weekend shutdowns that keep you operating add labour cost.

M-102.4 Questions
Questions about HVAC and air compressor work
Don’t see your question? Call (647) 637-6052 or ask in your estimate request.
Should we repair our rooftop unit or replace it?
Weigh the age of the unit, how often it has failed, the cost of the repair against replacement, and what it costs to run. A newer, right-sized unit usually costs less to operate, and repeated compressor or heat exchanger failures usually point to replacement. Our free estimate can price both options side by side, so you decide on numbers rather than guesses.
Can you replace equipment without shutting down our operation?
Usually, yes. Rooftop units can be swapped one at a time so the rest of the building stays conditioned, and crane lifts can be booked for early mornings or weekends. For compressed air, a rental compressor can carry the load while the new unit is set and piped in. We agree the sequence with you before any equipment is ordered.
Does our air receiver need a TSSA inspection?
It may. Under Ontario’s boiler and pressure vessel regulation, an air receiver larger than 42.5 litres (1.5 cubic feet), wider than 152 mm and rated above 103 kPa (15 psi) needs a registered design and a current certificate of inspection, posted near the vessel. Smaller tanks are exempt. When we install or replace a receiver, we check its registration and coordinate the inspection.
How often should HVAC and compressor equipment be serviced?
Most rooftop units get a spring cooling check and a fall heating check, with filter changes in between based on how dusty the space is. Compressors are serviced by running hours, following the manufacturer’s schedule for oil, filters and separators, and dryers and drains need regular checks too. Our mechanical division can put both on one maintenance calendar, so nothing is missed.
Do we need a permit to replace HVAC equipment?
Often, yes, especially when equipment size, location or ductwork changes. Toronto, for example, issues a stand-alone mechanical permit based on drawings that show equipment, duct design and ventilation calculations. Your municipality decides what applies to your project. Our in-house engineering department prepares the drawings and application, and we schedule the inspections.
