Frequently asked questions
Don’t see your question? Call (647) 637-6052 or ask in your estimate request.
What will my renovation cost?
It depends on the size of the space, how much of the layout changes and the finishes you choose. Moving plumbing or taking out a wall costs more than replacing finishes in place, and older homes can hide wiring or drains that need updating. We visit, measure and give you a clear estimate at no cost, based on your space and your choices.
Do I need a building permit?
Often. In Ontario a permit is usually needed to remove or change a load-bearing wall, add plumbing, build most decks, finish a basement with a new unit or build an addition. Flooring, cabinets and paint usually don’t need one. Your municipality decides. When a permit is needed, our in-house engineering department prepares the drawings and the application.
Do glass railings and decks need engineering?
Glass guards usually need an engineer’s design or letter, and many decks need structural drawings for the permit. Our in-house engineering department prepares them, and on custom glass work the engineering letter is included free.
Can you build a legal basement unit?
Yes. A second unit needs a building permit, and the drawings have to show egress windows, fire separations, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and the heating layout the Building Code requires. Our engineers prepare them and we build the unit. Some cities, such as Mississauga, also require the finished unit to be registered.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, on eligible projects through Financeit. Approval, rates and terms are set by Financeit, so ask us about it during your free estimate and we’ll point you to the application.
